The American Board of Ringside Medicine is responsible for determining certification requirements and their process to:
1. Improve the quality of medical care available to the athlete.
2. Establish and maintain standards of excellence in the specialty of Ringside Medicine.
3. Improve the standards of medical education for training in Ringside Medicine.
4. Determine by evaluation the fitness of specialists in Ringside Medicine who apply for and hold certificates.
This year the Ringside Physicians’ course and certification exam tentatively is scheduled
in Colorado Springs, Colorado during the 2011 USA Boxing National Championships.
The exam may be taken without attending the course, but course participation is highly
recommended. Any licensed physician may participate in this course. Membership in USA Boxing is required, but can be done at the time if necessary, and is free. However, to take the certification exam, you need to have 3 years of experience with USA Boxing. Two letters of recommendation are also required – one from your Local Boxing Committee (LBC) president and another from other USA Boxing personnel. You must also have performed as lead physician at three events.
Please pass this invitation along to any of your colleagues who might be interested.
IMPORTANT
If you have already passed the Certification Examination, please help us update our records by letting us know the year in which you certified. We will then contact you about opportunities to be grandfathered in by the American Board of Ringside Medicine and to join the American College of Ringside Physicians.
